Mac wakes up in Las Vegas to find that she has drunkenly married the movie star, Hal Sharpe, the night before. To save his reputation he offers her a deal; if she stays married to him for 12 months, she can take a year off to fulfil her dream of writing and receive a generous settlement in the divorce. Mac agrees and quickly falls for her new husband but as well as accusations of being a gold digger, she has to contend with Hal's publicist, who seemingly hates her, and Hollywood's unrealistic standards of beauty.
