A successful artist, Miranda Palmer is living a dream come true-but her nights are another matter. Miranda suffers from sleep paralysis, a rare disorder that leaves her immobilized and causes vivid nightmares. The unexpected escalation of her night terrors begins to strain Miranda's already rocky relationship with her husband, Gage. After Miranda blacks out while painting, she awakens to discover the dark, menacing figure from her dreams now inhabits her artwork. Her house has begun to echo with strange, disembodied whisperings and distant footsteps. Gage, battling personal demons of his own, struggles to not betray his wife's trust. When Miranda is brutally attacked in her sleep and beaten into a coma. Gage, the only suspect, is arrested. As Miranda lies unconscious in her hospital bed, Gage is freed on bail only to find that the disturbances at the house have grown more dangerous and frightening. After a visitor to their home is murdered during an assault similar to the one Miranda suffered, Gage delves into secrets from Miranda's childhood that involve her long-dead father- secrets that just may hold the key to freeing her from the grasp of evil.
