9 Hours to Goodbye "As my long awaited child was born the room became silent. The doctor reached his hand up and hit the mirror so I could no longer see what was happening. He reached for a towel and laid it over her head and handed her to the nurse. "Get her out of here." The only sound in the room was my voice asking "Was it a girl or boy and was it ok?" The doctor looked up from between my legs and said, "It's a girl and you better pray she dies quickly." Brienne Amber Bill was born and my world changed forever. Suffering from a rare positioning of Amniotic Bands that formed over her head early on in the pregnancy. Those bands went over her head which is like putting a rubber band over a balloon. As she grew her head had to grow around that band. Her tiny hand was up against her face, trapped underneath those unforgiving bands, eventually amputating her fingers. The devastation that occurred is what movies are made of, almost unbelievable. My intention of sharing our story is to continue Brienne's lesson of 'You never know what love will look like' but to also be a help to others in their grief. Grief comes in many packages. Not just the loss of a loved one. It could be the loss of a pet, a job, or a relationship. You feel as if you will never smile again and cannot go on another day. I want you to know that you can and you will go on. How quickly is up to you. Your grief will never fully disappear, however, you can tame it with little effort. I want you to live again. I want you to know more than anything, no matter how devastating an event in your life may be, you will smile again. You will smile, you will laugh, and you will live, all without guilt. Brienne and I promise you that.
