"In the middle of the night, Janette held her breath, and tip-toed to her ex's old bedroom. The room was just as clean as it had been the night Dane came to live with Janette and her Grandmother. Janette was sure, as she finally entered Dane's old room, and collapsed onto his bed, that 'Tonight must mark the occasion of some night I spent out with Rudy, ' but to check her Diary, she'd have to get back up and head to her room... She had Rudy to thank for being the instigator but, whether he knew it or not, 'Thanks to him, Dane and I are no more. It hadn't even been one year since we started going out... more like four months.' She yawned, and sent Rudy a text message she thought was "I need to talk to you," but hadn't realized she'd nodded off in the middle of texting it. The sound of the phone ringing shocked Janette awake, and when she answered, Rudy's amused reiteration of the message she'd sent him, "You need me?" made her think she was having another dream.
