Freeman Walters had no expectation of dying, yet someone brutally attacked him in his house, leaving him close to death. It falls to Lt. Will O'Mara of the Berkeley police force to find out how and why the attack was made. O'Mara, with the help of the other three members of his music quartet making suggestions, is led into the past history of the Kaylee family tree, Kaylee being Marty Walters' maiden name. With the past unraveling, the quartet's music flowing, and the secrets of the Walters' family coming to light, he races time to find the assailant, or assailants, before they strike again.
