Jack Wainwright, newly returned from World War I, must now face his new status as the heir to his family and to their ancestral estate. He must learn to stand in another's shoes and accept the responsibilities that fall to him as Viscount of his family's ancestral title. Neighboring long time friend Deidre Emerson-Smyth shares a similar problem. Although she is unable to inherit the title from her late brother, she has inherited the day to day operations of her family's estate.
