Why Modern Society Invented Ufos
Albert Ramos
Publisher Marketing: UFOs and alien abductions are complete myths. Then, why is it that so many have seen UFOs and reported being abducted by aliens? The answer, according to Ramos, is the need to believe in something higher than ouselves. But why? Why in this day and age there is a hunger to believe in space aliens? It has a lot to do with post-Hiroshima. UFO mythology started with the Cold War; specifically, when the space race took off, many looked to the skies and "invented" gods, borrowing from old mythology and even the Bible, as saviors of humanity about to blow itself up into oblivion. The final frontier, the new Manifest Destiny, inspired the belief in advanced races from outer space or another dimension. However, there a few who claim such visitors are not messiahs whatsoever; they are evil and came to conquer Earth. World governments are knowedgeable of this, they say, and are in league with these evil beings for their own selfish, bureaucratic purposes. According to Ramos, belief in space aliens has everything to do with a spiritual crisis. Furthermore, such crisis is also related to the downward slide of Western hegemony, at a time when slavery was long abolished, at a time when the world began changing once colonialism became a thing of the past. Some have looked to the past, saying extraterrestrials created the great, lost civilizations. Our ancestors came from the stars long ago; in our current age, disenchantment with organized religion and distrust towards science and technology, are viewed by some as empty shells. Old time religion may not be the answer, but neither is materialism. Despite scientific advancements, something is missing.
