Seeking Degrees of Freedom Ward a R Dill

Wiley first felt deep pain and loss when his father was killed. He was just twelve. In 2018, now twenty-nine, he is a post doc at MIT deep into technologies in biology. Around him, the world is showing the early signs of lawlessness due to an emergent form of HIV that is both highly lethal and casually transmitted. Wiley's Uncle Max has his own set of problems. Two years earlier, he and his best friend (and Nobel Prize co-winner) Guy built a fully equipped laboratory hidden from the world to work toward a cure for the growing epidemic. But, with one small slip-up, Guy became infected, and Max's professional detachment turned into a much more personal quest. Max is desperate to save Guy's life. Wiley joins the laboratory and takes over Guy's role. The human species is at risk. Wiley is staggered by responsibilities and new personal tragedies. How many burdens can a young man endure? How many losses? Can he mature fast enough or will the pulls of despair and vengeance overwhelm him? What will the team do to encourage him in one direction or to thwart him in another? As his personal imperatives entwine with his professional responsibilities, Wiley's core principles are put to the test. This is one smart, visionary, and inspiring book: a human story of struggle, love, and growth under extreme pressure.
