Captain Mark and his crew are found disoriented wandering outside Marianna Chemical Company's complex were they work. Their mental state could lead to institutionalize. But in desperation, Mark's mother, Colonel Winters, the Marianna military liaison, "blackmails" Dr. K. C. Scot, a young self-help paperback writer, to help. Captain Mark doesn't work at the regular part of Marianna but the underground Special Projects, home of the labs doing work for the government among other things. All of it making Dr. Scot questioning his thoughts of what is reality.
