A "nice girl," a benign term of the era, she reflects the pendulous swing of morals, ethics, gender, racial advances, and radical religious thinking that shaped her life. After a tragic event occurs; she considers her family's destiny and discovers that first, her own progeny must be secured.. Her father said, "You do what you gotta do."
