In this second book of the Byeways trilogy our two characters are joined by Jimmy - a lackadaisical ladies man and shirker who is quite content to let his colleagues deal with all the strain and effort. Billy on the other hand is paired up with Harry and, like an obedient dog, is always by his co-drivers side, no matter how badly he may be treated. Friendship is a peculiar thing and along with culture there can be reluctance by man to consciously appreciate it.
