Effective behavioral management is essential in successful schools. In order for children to be able to learn and be successful in school they need to first learn how to behave in school. Learning only takes place when students are ready to learn and this only takes place when they are excited about learning. Schools need to use a multi-tiered approach to behavioral and academic interventions with students. It is only through multiple interventions that students with challenging behaviors are able to change and learn. The days of students just being suspended for inappropriate behavior has passed with many students who do not care about punitive efforts to change their behavior. Schools need to come up with creative measures to help students to move past behavior that inhibits their learning, and move to behavior that excells their learning.
