Thirteen-year-old Ruth lives happily in Poland with her family. Her dad owns a book store; her mother is a teacher; and she adores her older brother, Alec. But things change quickly when the Nuremberg Laws are enforced by the Germans, the ghettos are established, and the family goes into hiding, leaving their old life behind. Soon the family is rounded up by the Nazis and sent by boxcars to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Here, Ruth witnesses a host of atrocities and does her best to survive the nightmare in which she finds herself. The Sacrifice follows Ruth as she sees World War II and the Holocaust swallow her hopes and dreams.
