A beautiful, naked woman swims alone in an icy Italian lake. Watching her is sculptor David Lawrence. Inspired to create a series of unique new sculptures for The Wells Gallery exhibition, David relocates from London to his new studio in North Cornwall. Near this wild and rugged coastline, David reconnects with elemental forces which drive his work. Urged on by his ambitious manager, Francesca Wells; reawakened by his student love, a poet called Tasmin; overwhelmed by his erotic desire for his muse Teresa Guiccioli; David begins his struggle to create art which the reader can visualise as it emerges. Set in a liquid world of lake and seascapes, counterpoised with the sensuality of carved stone, three extraordinary women come and go in David?s life. Eventually, he will produce works which are sold to the one man he detests.
