America's citizenry has turned to the gang grab to feed and clothe themselves, and they have turned to clanning for shelter. Zeno Jacobs still lives in the house he grew up in, but his inheritance has run out. As the newly promoted personnel manager of HRW International, his job is turn and burn as many employees as possible each month. And he is very good at his job. Then the Hundred Days Riots begin and L. A. combusts in a fiery whirlwind. When martial law is declared, Zeno hires Sheila MacCalistaire and the two quickly fall in love.
