Heartbreak strikes the Kennerson family as they vacation in sunny California. Their beloved dog, Lucky, a beautiful collie, disappears as they are playing on the beach. They search for him in desperation, but have to return to Utah without him. The youngest child is heartbroken, but while the rest of the family accept the loss, Joey refuses to give up hope that Lucky will one day come home.
