Holy Gym (Volume 1)
Ms. Louisa Rae Hobbs
Holy Gym is a short story about a fifty year old woman, Louisa Rae Hobbs, who is addicted to exercise. Her life revolves around the gym. Exercise haunts her, as every muscle in her body hurts, and yet she continues to push herself to exhaustion. She is also a recovered bulimic and almost died from the eating disorder. Louisa and her husband take a two-week vacation out west which creates great anxiety in her because it disrupts Louisa?s rigorous twice daily exercise routine at the gym. She is so upset to be away that she starts taking a Xanax a day to deal with it. Louisa decides to keep a personal journal in order to survive her trip out west. Along the way, she learns a lot about herself, her husband and some history about America?s Grand Teton National Park. This is a tale that illustrates how exercise addiction is often tied to eating disorders and how a personal journal along with the help of two doctors and a loving husband saved Louisa?s life.
