There was once a time when Korea was a so-called ?hermit country,? unheard of to people living across the seas. Nevertheless, Americans awoke one morning to find that news of Korea had taken over the headlines of daily papers and posted all over different forms of media. A war had broken out in that small, unknown country. The United States Military came to its aide, suffering a heavy loss of more than 140,000 casualties in, as it came to be called, the Korean War - but this war has long since been forgotten. This is a story about a native Korean?s experiences during that war, while in the paramilitary operations under the command of the U. S. CIA. This novel centers around warriors, both in battle and in peace. It is about a graceful culture that was torn to shreds by the whims of international politics, and how, thanks to the U. S. war dynamism, Korea grew to the advanced industrial stage it is in today. The calligraphy on the front cover is by Syngman Rhee, the first president of the Republic of Korea. It reads: "Permanent freedom is contingent upon prosperity and national consensus."
