Sara, the editor of her high school newspaper, wants to become a reporter and when the local paper chooses to hire a teen for the summer after her junior year, she applies. As the oldest of seven children, she knows she will need to earn some money to make her dream become reality. But she faces worries of another kind too. Her cousin Dan is in Vietnam, and her four-year-old brother becomes seriously ill. Sara is desperate to learn what is causing him to be sick when his doctors admit they do not have a reason. Working at the Dartt Settlement Times places her in the position to meet people whose stories offer clues. And then she meets Scott -- who both helps and complicates her life. Suddenly, she is facing fallout from several directions.
