Two boys in 1969 find a body of a young girl, choked to death, lying in the woods near an old bridge. They flee the area and in the 1980's, Brian to the Major Leagues of baseball, and Delmar, the victim of that persuasion in court,found guilty of the girls murder over 12 years ago. Tom Dobbs, ex County Sheriff and Sid Thomas, Reporter, determined to cross their own bridge of guilt, attempt to exonerate him and expose the psychopath responsible. The Throat Murders have accumulated in Atlanta and the clues of apprehension are invisible to the police. The two maneuver with unconventional means and coincidences, a lost baseball, Vietnam War, rumors, and a nickname. The execution date is set, time is running out, they go out of bounds to stall time and persuade freedom.
