"Backyard chickens usually give families nice, fresh eggs, but not Trudy. She won't get off her eggs at all, and she pecks Sylvia and Grandma when they try to reach under her! When the resourceful Sylvia discovers the answer, she gains new respect for stubborn Trudy and comes up with an 'egg-cellent' solution"--

Marc Notes: Backyard chickens usually give families nice, fresh eggs, but not Trudy. She won't get off her eggs at all, and she pecks Sylvia and Grandma when they try to reach under her! When the resourceful Sylvia discovers the answer, she gains new respect for stubborn Trudy and comes up with an 'egg-cellent' solution--; Provided by publisher. Jacket Description/Flap: Every day, Sylvia collects eggs from her five chickens: Sue, Olga, Clara, Doris, and Trudy, and every day, her grandma turns those eggs into delicious omelets. But one day, Trudy says no! Sylvia and her grandma cannot figure out why Trudy is being so moody, so they set out to discover the reason. Is Trudy sick? Why won't she eat her chicken feed? She always did before. And why, oh why, is Trudy screeching and squawking so much? When they discover the answer, Sylvia gains new respect for stubborn Trudy and comes up with an egg-cellent solution. Informative and entertaining, Jane Sutton's tale of Broody Trudy serves as a playful introduction to agrarian life and the silly antics of chickens. The illustrations highlight the humor of the story, and the chickens' facial expressions are hilarious! Perfect for a classroom discussion on farming and raising chickens, this is an egg-straordinary addition to any reading unit. Publisher Marketing: As urban-dwelling families embrace the farm-to-table food movement, more and more people are starting community and rooftop gardens and even raising farm animals, such as chickens. Children growing up in these environments get the best of both worlds--the culture and convenience of a city with the health benefits and natural simplicity of a rural upbringing. Owning chickens is becoming popular among many. A source of farm-fresh eggs year-round, they are also a source of great amusement! Sylvia loves having chickens, and she likes omelets. One day, as she is gathering all of the eggs from her chickens, she comes upon one stubborn chicken who will not give up her eggs--Broody Trudy. She won't get off her eggs at all, and she pecks Sylvia and Grandma when they try to reach under her! Resourceful Sylvia discovers the reason why Trudy is being so moody, and she comes up with an "egg-cellent" solution!
