God Spares Not the Branches

A young American post-graduate student, Bryce Priest, returns to West Africa, where he was raised, to volunteer in an HIV/AIDS non-profit program. There he meets the complexities and chaos of Africa's present being continually birthed from the noble and tragic past. He gains deeper insight into buried tragedies of his childhood, and faces paradigm challenges in the social transitions and passions of today's Africa. Bryce experiences a renewal of his love for Africa and old family friends as well as the possibility of new love with the striking Nkosi Yako, his supervisor. Twists and turns in the narrative take the reader from distant African past and traditions to secret evils plaguing the present. Set in present day West Africa, exploring the issues of social justice amid the competing forces of Africa's social transformations, the novel addresses the balances of African spirituality in the contexts of historical and emerging issues. At the deepest level, the characters explore the human capacity for change.
