Coming Full Circle
Christian Mccallister
The story is set approximately one thousand years from now, in a post-technological Michigan, that has been divided into many small kingdoms or city-states. Most of our technology is missing, and the story tells of how a portion of homo sapiens evolved into a new species, that left Earth behind. The story is about those still on Earth, with only passing references to the absentee new race. Specifically, the story tells of how an injured man awakens in a cave, with no memory of who he is, but with a sense that he has an urgent task to complete. As the man travels through Michigan, he gradually rediscovers, and partially recreates, himself, as well as rediscovering his mission. He encounters both allies and enemies, and eventually has a showdown with his nemesis, with the fate of several small kingdoms hanging in the balance. I tried very hard to make the showdown, and the nature of the conflict, and its outcome, different from what is seen in most good-versus-evil stories.
