Clue Number One is a mini-mystery that teaches children it is fun to play with words and ideas. Randy claims that he found a beast. Lisa, the city girl, has little experience with beasts so Randy decides to play a game. It is not entirely Lisa's fault that she sees a large beast, while Randy sees a small beast. The reader is in on the joke and can laugh at the absurd situations Lisa plots for her imaginary beast. The ending riddle concludes that a beast can be a friend.
