Kathy entered her marriage with high hopes and life-long dreams of what married life would be like. She knew that Jeff drank too much from time to time and that he had legal problems as a result of it in the past, but that was when he was still a teenager. Most everyone that she knew drank too much in high school and college. Kathy was about to get a lesson in the destructive forces of alcoholism. She was also about the learn that time would not soften her mother-in-law's feelings towards her. Kathy was marrying Clare's "special child" and she would pay for that.
