As a history teacher, I enjoyed learning a new aspect of the Revolutionary War through this book. The relationship between the modern day main characters and their mystery was intriguing and interesting enough to keep even a non-history person engaged with the overall story. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable story for all ages!An antique trunk purchased at auction contains secrets that lead Greta and her grandfather on a veritable treasure hunt through history. Will they be able to keep the treasure, or at least keep it out of the hands of those who want to steal it? The answer rests with members of the Culper spy ring, who served George Washington and helped to win the American Revolution. As Greta and Gramps trace the contents of the box in the present, some of the most charismatic characters of the Revolution-George Washington, Nathan Hale, Benedict Arnold, John Andre, and a lady spy simply known as Agent 355-weave the historical account of how a group of volunteer spies from Long Island thwarted the mighty British Empire. The greatest army and navy in the world could not humble the upstart rebels into submission. Combining historical fact and a contemporary mystery, the author has created an entertaining adventure with colorful personalities and not a few surprises. Sometimes history really is stranger than fiction!
