The Black and Tan Coonhound is a breed of dog that originates in the United States of America. The breed was developed by mixing the Bloodhound and the Black and Tan Virginia Foxhound. The breed was originally developed for the purpose of being a game dog. The Black and Tan Coonhound uses its incredible sense of smell to track its prey, by scent alone, and chase them up a tree. The Black and Tan Coonhound is also known to have a courageous temperament and an athletic build which makes it proficient at hunting larger prey such as deer, wolf, bear and cougar.
