Hannah has recently broken up with her boyfriend, and is dissatisfied with her job. She comes across both a photo that intrigues her, because it looks like a photo of her, and, on the same day, the offer of a cheap airfare to Australia. As she was born and adopted in Australia, and the photo was taken in Australia, she sees this as fate taking a hand. She revisits family still living in Australia, travelling between Queensland, Tasmania and New South Wales, but all the time is pursuing the mystery of the photo. There is a back-story that is revealed as she talks to family members about their experiences growing up. Despite all her efforts, she returns to England and the village where she lives without having solved the mystery, but having gained some valuable clues. She set out to find a new job, come to terms with feelings stirred up by the photo, and generally sort out her life (she is temporarily living with her parents) She realises that she now has a real need to know the facts behind the photo. Serendipity takes a hand, and she meets new family members. A story of travel, family, village life, and emotional ups and downs.
