Once again Karen's mistakes were going to destroy her dreams. She and Todd had been able to keep their engagement quiet. But splashing the news about their wedding might have repercussions. Giving it up, however, would be a bitter pill to swallow. Her heart sank. Nate was beginning to feel sorry for Henry. He remembered how it felt to be treated like a disease by the adults around him. It was nice to cause pain in the people he wanted to hurt, but it was a lonely satisfaction. Even the attention he got from his peers didn't fill the emptiness in his heart. Like a volcanic island, he was constantly erupting, devoid of vegetation that could indicate a stable future.
