This time, readers follow along with Elizabeth and Laura, Nicko's younger sister and mother, as they survive through the beginning of The Release. Elizabeth is stuck in the operating room all day, hard at work for her medical residency. However, once she leaves the OR, Elizabeth realizes something horrible has happened in the outside world.
