This easy reader, chapter book begins when the author finds a Quaker parrot sitting on top of her SUV. She could only imagine what the young bird had encountered during this adventure. This fictionalized, but true, story addesses decision making, problem solving, trust and love for both the author and the parrot. It opens the door for parents and teachers to explore concepts of safety, basic needs, emotions and seeking help.

The parrot, later named Georgie, puts voice to his adventures and shares what went from fun to fear and exhaustion in a few short days. He learns that being lost is not fun. There are many dangers out in the wild.

Hali, who finds him, must decide how to help without scaring him off. The fact that Georgie was so tired, hungry and thirsty allowed him to accept help. They both had to demonstrate trust and love to make this work.

Once safe and in his new home, despite efforts to find the original owner, Georgie and Hali quickly find out there are still more adventures to sort out.

The book concludes with facts about Quaker parrots and advice about what children should do before ever approaching a stray animal. Throughout the book, there are many teachable moments for 6 - 9 year olds who will love to read this book alone or with help.
