In this book, Ikechuku Chigewe chronicles the true story of his seventeen-year journey to American citizenship. Born to Nigerian parents, Ikechuku weathered the setbacks on the odyssey that led him from Africa to the United States as an international student, with the hope of eventually becoming a naturalized American citizen. In the ensuing years when his student visa was to be converted into a work visa, he would lose his legal status, be left with no option but to leave the United States on a ten-day notice, and have a brief stint in the outskirts of Paris during which time he desperately attempted to legally re-enter America.



It's a story about overcoming adversity in the face of the impossible. It's a story about believing in and pursuing a dream through thick and thin, highs and lows. It's a story about patient perseverance and the kindness of humanity--of strangers and friends who supported Ikechuku along the way. It's a true story about holding on to a good hope, of living in the land of freedom and opportunities, even in the midst of an onslaught of defeats.
