When Jude Horridge's grandmother dies unexpectedly, he panics. He puts her body in the freezer, alongside the frozen pets that are the subjects of his taxidermy. He is alone for the first time, except for the familiar voices inside his head.

As he waits to be found out by the police, he begins to step away from Gram's rules. He falls for fiery Beth with her spiked hair, and makes an unlikely friend.
