As people travel through Yellowstone National Park each day, they often come across buildings or points of interest along the roadway for which there is no publicly-accessible background information. Every single day the park's rangers, tour guides, and concession employees field hundreds of questions about these sites. And many have said, "There ought to be a book..." Well, now there is! It is intended for a variety of audiences including park rangers newly assigned to Yellowstone, park employees, tour guides, researchers, and visitors who wish to have a more in-depth understanding of the microhistory of the individual points of interest throughout the park. The book has hundreds of pages of information previously known only to a handful of long-time park employees and historians. Yellowstone Mileposts is composed of two major sections. The first provides the reader with a mile-by-mile guide to the more than 400 miles of park roads, complete with GPS coordinates. The second is a building-by-building history of all of the significant tructures in the park's nine commercial developments. It is one of the most comprehensive guides to Yellowstone National Park available to the public.
