LossSongs is a collection of twenty three poems on the subject of love lost. It is American writer and poet Anora Sutherland's first poetry chapbook. The first poem was written 17 years ago in 1998. Text from the back cover: Falling in love hurts. It just does. Sooner or later, when love is threatened or lost, a pain as deep as the love once was, rises like a flood, hurricane or typhoon. We persist in believing falling in love is the foundation for long term love in a sustainable relationship. It's hardly a certainty. Yet, when this ancient spell takes hold, we are powerless to stop its fire. Reason does not rule in the depths and ethers where this love reigns. LossSongs is a book of poetry on the yearnings and disappointments, the reconciliations and defeats, of such a spell-casting love. Some of the poems are simple markers in time, like knots in rope or a small piles of stones. Others are crystals that refract light, found readily on desert gravel, or arduously in underground caves or mountain ledges.
