At the age of 10, after meeting refugees cared for by a local church she had an inexplicable connection to a place called Vietnam. This connection, and the feeling that something was missing from her life, eventually grew into a desire to adopt a Vietnamese child. Not understanding these feelings but always searching, she continued with a "normal" life until things started to become clear.
