Words Uncaged
"Disconnected/Reconnected" is a collection of writing from prisoners at Lancaster State Prison in Los Angeles County exploring how pain and trauma lead to incarceration, and how love and meaningful reflection lead to healing. The program at Lancaster was implemented by Words Uncaged, a non-profit organization providing creative platforms to inmates in California prisons to create a dialogue between prisoners and the outside world. Founder of Words Uncaged, Cal State LA professor of English, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, says, "This book invites you to join the incarcerated writers, victims of violent crimes, and family members of both, within its pages, to imagine how individual and collective healing is possible when the burden of pain is shared, and when we are (re)connected to our common humanity." In addition to writing, "Disconnected/Reconnected" contains artwork and portraits of the men at Lancaster.
