Literacy Movement Vol. I presents The Cool, The Cold, and The Wise: A Poetic Commentary is a collection of work meant to inspire, provoke thought, motivate one to action and create dialogue. Literacy Movement Vol. I is also a call for people, in particular young people to turn off the television, give the computer a break, pick up this book and let's make reading cool. The Cool represents my real life experiences in poetic form with pieces like "PE20"; my two weeks on tour with Flavor Flav and Public Enemy and my connection and celebration of Tupac Shakur in "Praise Pac". The Cool also touches on celibacy, MySpace, breast cancer and hip-hop. The Cold, a poetic diatribe on topics such as police brutality, the heartlessness of inaction and the bravery of people after Hurricane Katrina in a piece entitled, "Katrina Speaks", slavery, identity theft, and the controversial political piece entitled, "No More Democracy". The Wise is just that, wisdom. Spiritual pieces entitled, "Holy Matrimony" and "Final Destination: Islam". The piece dedicated to those incarcerated entitled, "Unlock the Gate" and an ode to my future wife entitled, "Wedding Ring". A Poetic Commentary: A poetry reporter delivering the raw news. Enjoy.
