The educational topics of I Am Not Afraid to Read are decoding, sight/tricky words and automaticity. One of the most important obstacles to fluent reading and good comprehension is lack of 'automaticity' the skill to identify letters, letter-sound correspondences, and isolated words quickly and accurately. Children who have not formed automaticity in decoding by certain intellectual timelines are at risk for reading failure.

The back pages of this book contain kindergarten through 2nd grade foundation words, word families, vowel teams, vowel combinations, digraphs, blends, trigraphs, and alphabet sounds for reading supports and strengthening.
