The lone survivor of the Pavoso massacre, Laurie, becomes a liability to the Venezuelan government that will go to great lengths to keep the true nature of the incident a secret. Laurie must escape imprisonment and travel many miles to get to those who can help her realize her true powers, or humanity will be forever lost. Meanwhile, The Whistling Man's "true identity" is discovered. We also learn that the beast has a destiny of his own-to raise the army of the dead and devour earth, as written in the secret scrolls held by the Vatican in Rome.
