Coleman Hawkins
In February 1966, the Impulse label released Coleman Hawkins' last major album. Even 43 years after his debut, Hawkins was still coming up with new ideas and wrote one of the songs, 'She's Fit', himself. Connoisseurs also recognise the musical influence of John Coltrane on Hawkins' work. Sadly, this seems to have been the last great musical moment in the life of Coleman Hawkins, who became increasingly addicted to alcohol and lost interest in life.
This recording features Coleman Hawkins on tenor sax, Bill Berry on trumpet, Buddy Catlett on bass, Urbie Green on trombone, Barry Harris on piano, Eddie Locke on drums and Snooky Young on second trumpet.
This recording is one of a series of reissues by the legendary Impulse label. Under the aegis of mastering pro Kevin Gray, the Analogue Productions label had the analogue master tapes remastered at AcoustTech in California and released them as a hybrid SACD. Even on the CD track, the sonic capabilities of these revisions put even the original LPs from the 1960s to shame and are clearly superior to previous digitisations.
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
