The Choosing. By law, it is a ceremony that every citizen in Theria must go through around their 18th birthday. The Choosing decides whether or not a person will be one of the few who is given the gift of magic. Normally, it is a ceremony that is only exciting for those given the gift. This time, it is different. A riot breaks out after a young woman receives a gift that should not have been possible. The guards at the event are Bracers, the military branch of Theria's army that is composed of only magic users. While trying to diffuse the situation, one of the Bracers casts a spell far beyond his capabilities. How are these two strangers connected? And what do they have to do with a supposedly fictional group that hates the Bracers?
