Geriatric Spring
Rita Deyo
This collection has evolved over a period of many years. Scraps of paper and notebooks were gathering dust in boxes, the tote bag that travel to years of poetry writing classes and poetry groups. It was time to take inventory, to shake the dust off and to look at my life the way I had experienced it or thought I had. None of these writing are judgments or meant to be harsh. People are entitled to feel sorry for themselves on occasion. As we age the self-pity becomes a little insignificant and even at times humorous. The intention of this collection is to deal with the things that in reality no longer matter, or matter very much, things that I cherish because they are part of my growth. My adulthood is the afterwards of my history. It is what I celebrate with excitement and eagerness. Every day is a new adventure, a new opportunity to love someone a little more, to appreciate all the things, the people who touch my life. Maybe there are a few regrets but they are so few they don't really cloud the landscape for very long. My spirit is too busy dancing.
